Kim, Corey and Madison

We took a few pictures in front of their tree at home. Kim and Corey, I’m sending a copy of this photo to Old Navy! ;)

Aren’t Kim and Corey the cutest couple?

This picture cracks me up…last time I took pictures of Madison, I really wanted to take a photo of her holding her mom and dad’s hands. Well, last time she didn’t want to stand up, and in this photo…she just looks kind of bored, huh? Ha ha!

There’s a smile :)

I think Kim and Corey were standing behind me, singing when this photo was taken. It looks like Madison is saying, “Animal noises are so last month, Mom and Dad.” Right??

I have to post this photo because isn’t Kim the cutest pregnant lady?

Right after I put the camera away, there’s always ONE more photo I find that I want to take. This is it! I love how this turned out!

The season I miss MOST in Michigan is fall. It’s a beautiful time of year, with the colors changing and the weather becoming cool and brisk. It’s also the time of year that my birthday falls on AND when I met Kevin. We discussed getting married in the fall, but like any sucker of a bride, I eventually decided on a June wedding.

In any case, we were recently in Michigan in November and I had some opportunity to take pictures of the fall color.

I really dig taking pictures at night. I love taking advantage of single lights because it creates a dramatic feel to the image. I haven’t experimented much taking pictures with people, but I like half-lit images. They have that film-noir kind of feel.

Oh, how I love FOG! Sure, we have a marine layer in OC, but fog is so much denser. Also, the marine layer isn’t here at night. Which is probably a good thing.

That’s my brother’s girlfriend off to the right.

LOVE this photo! It’s my parents and brothers walking back to their cars after dinner.

Last but not least, a truly awful family photo. This is what happens when you have terrible light, you’re shooting at 1.4, and refuse to use your on-camera flash. Sometimes you should just use the pop-up flash! And sometimes, it’s more about just capturing the memory instead of trying to get everything perfect!

Stephanie, Mike and Andrew

November 30th, 2010

What I love about photographing families is the unpredictability. I would say in most cases this actually stresses my poor parent clients out, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get good photographs! It’s just a matter of chasing around the kids a bit more :) I think Stephanie, Mike and Andrew are a perfect case [...]

It’s just a matter of chasing around the kids a bit more :) I think Stephanie, Mike and Andrew are a perfect case of this! I took their family photos this weekend at Heritage Hill Park in Lake Forest.

Here they are! Don’t they make such a cute family?

Andrew LOVED the lights in the park, which was the main reason we were chasing him :) I remarked as we were looking at one with him, “He’s going to be an engineer!” and Stephanie said, “Yes, just like Mike!” I guess it runs in the family! :)

I always try to make sure to get a few good shots of just mom and dad…they work so hard not only during the shoot to get smiles out of their kid, but every day, of course!

At the very end of the shoot, we found this water fountain and Andrew LOVED it!

Oh Christmas Tree

November 28th, 2010

I LOVE Christmas! It’s my favorite holiday. But I have a THING about it – I absolutely refuse to recognize it until AFTER Thanksgiving. I mean, it’s really getting ridiculous. I LOVE Christmas! It’s my favorite holiday. But I have a THING about it – I absolutely refuse to recognize it until AFTER Thanksgiving. I mean, it’s really getting ridiculous. Halloween hadn’t even arrived and I was already seeing Christmas decorations for sale! I love Christmas, but I draw the line on celebrating it for TWO WHOLE MONTHS. Pretty soon it will be Christmas in July, huh?

In any case, once Thanksgiving passes, I get into full Christmas mode. We just put up our tree today, listened to Christmas music, and made my favorite holiday drink (one and a half ounces of pear vodka, one and a half ounces of sweetened apple juice, a generous shake of cinnamon, and a splash of lime juice). I even have a candle I dubbed “the Christmas candle,” a Bath & Body Works candle called “Creamy Nutmeg” which smells oh-so-good!

Here’s a picture of our tree at night…it’s small but I love it! I don’t know what it is about Christmas, but I love it…but NOT until after Thanksgiving! :)

Book. Worm.

November 19th, 2010

I remember asking a friend once what her guilty pleasures were, and she replied, “I don’t feel guilty for any of my pleasures.” I thought it was refreshing and have tried to apply the same thought process for things I enjoy. After all, I do enjoy them, so why should I feel bad?

Yet admitting you love, love, LOVE the Harry Potter series can raise an eyebrow for some people. I feel sorry for those unenlightened people. I can’t tell you what a great, nay magical (hee hee) series of books this is. And what can I say, I’m a book nerd and I embrace it!

So needless to say, I’m pretty excited to see Deathly Hallows Part I this weekend. I’m not QUITE so passionate that I HAVE to stay up until midnight to see the movie. I’m quite satisfied to go see it tomorrow, or maybe Sunday.

But in the meantime, here is my Harry Potter collection. As you can see, the books are WELL worn. I read the entire series at least once a year and enjoy it immensely!

Doesn’t she look stunning?

I love these next two images of Kristin and her mom!

They had a beautiful ceremony just after the sun set…

I loved the decor in the reception hall! Beautiful centerpieces and a candy buffet to boot!

They went from a very sweet first dance…

…to a rowdy garter and bouquet toss! These two are so much fun!

I managed to sneak them out for a few minutes to get some nighttime portraits…I just love how all of these look in black and white.

I think this picture PERFECTLY sums up these two…a happy, fun couple that make each other laugh! Congratulations, Kristin and Rob – you had a beautiful wedding and many happy years ahead of you!

When I met Nicole and Chris earlier this year, they struck me as two of the sweetest, kindest people who were obviously madly in love. As they told me the story of how they met (and were subsequently engaged) in Las Vegas, they both gave each other little glances, alternately laughing and recounting their story. I just knew their wedding day would be filled with laughter and love.

As I arrived at La Palapa, the weather could not have been more perfect, sunny with a slight breeze. Nicole came in with her bridesmaids, looking stunning and effortlessly making changes.

Gorgeous, no?

Maybe my favorite picture of Nicole…it’s hard to pick just one!

Nicole and all of her gorgeous ladies!

The ceremony took place on the beach close to sunset. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting!

I just love seeing emotion at ceremonies…

Nicole and Chris drank a little wine during the ceremony…and Chris had seconds! We were all laughing :)

Some portraits of the bride and groom…

Some details of the reception area…

Some very touching first dances! First Nicole and Chris…

And then Chris and his mom…

And Nicole and her grandpa…

Congratulations, Nicole and Chris! Your wedding was so beautiful and I wish you all the happiness in the world!

I was super excited when wan contacted me about having a family session. When making plans, she then decided she wanted to get the pictures taken at Balboa Island, with the ferris wheel and carousel and petticoats to boot! I can’t tell you how much fun I have when people put that little extra into planning their session. I kept shooting until the sun set! Thank you guys for being a blast!

How sweet is the bean? I think she was just getting warmed up here…

And how GORGEOUS is the teen?

The girls took a ride on the carousel…

Can you tell I LOVED the petticoats?

The whole family!

A spin on the ferris wheel…

I don’t know why, I just love this photo!

What’s a trip to Balboa Island without some ice cream?

I think good taste in shoes runs in the family :)

I love this photo, especially the bean’s expression! “Look what Mom and Dad are doing!”

I left most of the photos in color because it seemed to fit the session, but I do like this one in particular in black and white…

Thanks for being so much fun, guys!

I have been DYING to take a workshop this year, but every time I’ve found one I want to attend, I’ve already had something planned or it just hasn’t worked out. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard about Red Leaf Cinema. Red Leaf Cinema is an online workshop created by Richard and Amy of Red Leaf Studios. If you’ve not checked out their work, the word that best describes their amazing photography is ethereal. Their imagery is simply stunning. Read the rest of this entry »

Lucy, Russ, Grant and Alec

November 8th, 2010

I had a great time at my family session with Lucy, Russ, Grant and Alec in Laguna Beach. We shot the session at their house, and I think the photos speak for themselves! They’re such a sweet family.
Isn’t Grant the cutest?
